Monetery Summit

At the start of my internship, I was immediately thrown into helping plan Dwolla's annual conference, Monetery Summit. We were just over a month away from the Summit, with a lot to do. My main responsibilities were to monitor registration, schedule email and social communications, and organize the unique off-site lunch experience. We used EventBrite as our registration and ticket sales platform, so I was tasked with exporting attendee lists and organizing based on ticket sales so emails were directed correctly. I organized the layout and content organization for different email audiences based on the type of ticket they bought or if they were on the waitlist, all sent through Pardot via Salesforce. I also had the job of scheduling social media posts for the Monetery Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram before the event, during, and after.

The lunch organization was the main task I had for Monetery Summit. This required me to reach out to five local restaurants for entire restaurant reservations. I needed to ensure the correct amount of attendees were going to each restaurant and make sure each name tag had the right location. I also organized the transportation for 250 attendees to get to the different restaurants and back. Finally, I had to create content for menus for each restaurant to give to the creative team, where they made cohesive designed menus for each restaurant. This part of the event was actually some of the attendees favorite because they got to explore Des Moines a bit and it was more exciting than a typical conference on-site lunch that they normally expect.

Other Events

After Monetery, I was in charge of organizing Live Demo Webinars for Dwolla's platform. This involved creating a landing page, a registration form through Pardot, and coordinating the day of with the sales team to ensure a smooth process. We hosted these webinars bi-weekly.

Dwolla was fortunate enough to move to a large office right before I started my internship. To utilize that space, Dwolla allowed for community events in some of the meeting spaces. I helped organize a few college visits and community events during my time. One was a college visit from an entrepreneur group from Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa and University of Iowa. They had the opportunity to learn from some of our staff and tour the office space. I worked with their advisor to coordinate their visit, ensured all guests signed NDA's, setup the meeting space for a better learning environment, and conducted the office tours.

Nearing the end of my time at Dwolla, I had the opportunity to assist with their expo booth for Money2020. I helped coordinate the booth design, communicated with the Money2020 planner on booth needs, and coordinator our hospitality suite that was used for prospective customer meetings. This included following a budget when ordering A/V equipment, extra set-up and amenities, and food and beverage. I also helped organize flights and hotel rooms for our staff that attended the expo.

Marketing and Communications

A large portion of my internship at Dwolla related to Marketing and Communications. I learned from the Creative team about content creation and social media marketing, and from the Marketing Ops team I learned about SEO, Ads, Webdesign, and metrics. I was in charge of scheduling and creating approved content for all our social media pages to highlight case studies, product enhancements, and company culture. To to this, I used Sprout Social where I could schedule posts for the week and track their effectiveness. I also learned how to navigate Salesforce and Pardot to track the effectiveness of our email campaigns and website traffic.

During my time with the Creative team, I had the opportunity to write a blog for the Dwolla resource library based on my experience with planning Monetery Summit. I went through the process of content creating, editing, design, and publishing. I learned the process of creating blog posts and website edits, including landing pages and Pardot forms, for WordPress. My blog is still highlighted under the "Events" category of the "Blog" page.

I felt like this opportunity gave me such a unique experience as en Events intern because in most cases I wouldn't have had the change to learn more about the Marketing side of the company. I worked very closely with the other marketing interns and actually learned a lot from them. This portion of my internship really showed me what I was interested in, and led to my passion for Corporate Events and Communications.
